Christine Beatty has been a journalist and a professional writer since 1991, and a visible activist in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community since 1990. She was on the masthead of Spectator magazine as a regular contributor from 1991 until 2000, covering political, sexuality and gender issues in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Her articles have appeared in TransSisters, Transgender Tapestry, Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco Bay Times and other national and regional publications. Her short stories have appeared in Beyond Definition (Manic D. Press) and in Herotica 4 (Penguin Press). In 1993 she published a book of short stories and poetry, Misery Loves Company. From 1995 until 2002, she performed in the rock band Glamazon in the San Francisco and Los Angeles regions and is outlining a novel based partly on those experiences. |

Christine’s literary manager is currently marketing her autobiography, a retelling her perilous life journey from Boy to Woman as a loner, soldier, hippie, college student, husband, prostitute, heroin addict, writer, musician and corporate professional. She is currently working on a dramatic novel about two women struggling in the twilight world of sexwork and addiction who find hope in each other. Politically Christine describes herself as a “bleeding heart centrist” or a “twisted Libertarian” or “too complex to label.” As a teenager she worked on George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign and in 1996 she worked on prostitute-activist Margo St. James campaign for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She is a foam-at-the-mouth LGBT activist, especially on transgender issues, and believes in legalized recreational drugs and prostitution, despite being clean & sober since 1997 and retired from “full-contact” sexwork since 1986. People close to Christine describe her as bright, witty, hilarious, a “shameless exhibitionist” and “out of her fucking mind” — not necessarily in that order. |

Hi Christine, it’s Jim A from the Rap in Oakland! We lost touch over the past several years and then I saw a tweet from Larry-Bob about you and your blog and I had to say hi. I hope you are doing well and life has been good to you. I still go to Rap, which is now super small and in a different location, and still walk at the Post Office. I have a blog and I’ve morphed into a singer-songwriter with two CDs out. You can sample a few of my songs on the myspace page. I’ve had positive comments from Deadlee, Tim’m West and Easy Bay Express. Crazy, huh? You never know what’s gonna happen! Would love to hear from you, Christine.
